Fans Hurt At JLS Gig

Teenage fans of X Factor finalists JLS have been injured in a stampede outside Croydon's Fairfield Halls in London. The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Fairfield Halls at 1600 GMT after "reports of crushing at a free music event".

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "We were called to reports of a possible crushing at a free music event. London Ambulance and police attended. Five people were injured during the incident, all believed to be minor injuries." The hall management did not comment on the incident but confirmed the band were playing at the venue. A London Ambulance Service spokesman said people were treated at the scene with injuries ranging from an injured hand to abdominal pains and breathing difficulties. It is believed that the crowd had began gathering for the concert from early in the morning. Ahead of JLS' expected performance at 6pm, a crowd surge occurred. One teenager told The Croydon Guardian: "Everyone thought they could get in. They were handing out flyers for the event in town saying it was a free concert but when we turned up we were told we couldn't get in. We wouldn't have turned up if we had known. We have been standing here for hours."

JLS made it through to the X Factor final alongside Eoghan Quigg and Alexandra Burke. Click through the gallery below and relive that night in photos.
