Martina Voted Off Strictly
![]() |
In a huge shock, former professional tennis player Martina Hingis is the first celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing. She ended up in the bottom two alongside BBC presenter Rav Wilding.
After performing a waltz on Friday night and a rumba on Saturday, Martina was in fifth place on the leader board. However, the combination of the judges' scores and viewer votes left her and partner Matthew Cutler facing the dreaded dance-off.
Both celebrity couples then both performed their rumba a second time for the judges' deciding vote. Martina was saved by Craig Revel Horwood and Alesha Dixon but Bruno Tonioli plumped for the BBC man and Len Goodman, who had the deciding vote, followed suit. "They were very close during the competition, but here in this dance-off I thought one did improve and one under-performed. And the one I'm saving is Rav and Aliona," he said.
Martina was gracious in defeat: "It was a great experience. I learnt so much and while I wish it could continue, here we are. But maybe I'll come back to London for some more lessons." Find out how everyone else got on during Strictly's first two shows in our gallery.
