America's Dancing With The Stars
If a TV show is successful here in the UK, it will probably be exported abroad. Although we've seen an explosion of this in recent years (thanks to the universally adaptable reality genre), it's nothing new. Back in the 1970s, Steptoe & Son, the BBC's hugely successful series about two rag and bone men, was remade in the US as Sanford and Son.
The list of UK shows exported for American networks include: Pop Idol (American Idol in the US, with Simon Cowell as a judge), Supernanny (the UK and US version both feature Jo Frost), Hell's Kitchen (with Gordon Ramsay), Wife Swap (called Trading Spouses in America), Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and The Office. Naturally, there's a US version of Strictly Come Dancing, known as Dancing With The Stars in America. It is currently being shown on our very own UKTV Gold. Check out some of the contestants who've appeared on the show in our gallery below.
