Simon Says
He's known for his vicious put-downs, but Simon Cowell has also revealed his warm and fuzzy side. Interviewed by Sue Lawley on Radio 4's Desert Island Discs a while back, TV's Mr Nasty admitted his fondness for ballads from the 1950s and 1960s.
Todays pop acts are noticeably absent from the list of his eight favourite tracks. The only modern tune was Daniel Bedingfield's 2002 No 1 hit, If You're Not The One.
In addition to hits by Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, the Righteous Brothers and Wayne Newton, the songs on his list are: Herb Alpert's This Guy's in Love With You (which he says is "the sexiest song ever"), Charles Aznavour's She (described by Simon as "one of the most beautiful songs of all time") and his favourite, Bobby Darin's version of Mack The Knife, which he argues is "the best song ever made, ever produced, ever sang".
But we don't want to hear the high-waisted one being nice, do we? So in our gallery below, we've chosen a selection of his cutting insults. Enjoy.
