Your thoughts on Susan Boyle
![]() |
Just because Susan has a learning disability shouldn’t mean she is unable to fulfil her dream. She should have had more support I think. I think TV and news has gone mad lately, where to see people’s feelings hurt is entertainment. I think we should all be more civil to each other in so many ways.
I think she should be blamed for her ridiculous meltdown...We all face pressure, but most of us don't fall down and cry about it... let’s be honest....
...Who of us would not buckle slightly if we were mega blasted around the world in seven weeks!! Susan, in my opinion as a fan, is extremely talented and now deserves the opportunity to shine. She will become a DIVA!!!!!!!
I am a mental health advocate and feel very strongly that the only person who should make the decision whether or not Susan was "well enough" to cope with BGT is Susan herself...
I know I sound completely cynical here, but do you not think this 'breakdown' has been contrived as she did not win?...Fantastic voice, but it’s a shame she went down the self-pity route!
I blame the media. I don't understand why in this country the media feel they have to hunt you down and destroy you just for being famous. They don't seem to like people getting on with their lives and being good at something. No wonder so many of our great British talents want to move abroad.

You can't blame the media. To be a professional famous singer you become a celebrity. Being a celebrity, you’re surrounded by the media 24/7. Everyone knows that. So if you can't cope with it, don't bother applying to one of the most popular shows in the world!!!
I think all the media attention has contributed to her mental breakdown. Susan Boyle and the show did not predict or prepare for this attention. As the media has caused this, should they not just leave her alone now until the gets well again?
It’s not Susan Boyle’s fault. She has a mental illness and probably was stressed.
annoyed with it all
Who cares about her anymore.. she lost!!! What about the winners... they actually won the competition and not a word about them at this time. Such a shame. Let her go and let the winners take the stage!!!
I don't believe Susan has a learning difficulty, this is all hype by the media. Yes, she is out of her dept. This lady has had a quiet upbringing in a quiet village and then suddenly she is literally thrown to the lions. Yes, she is in a clinic, having need of a rest and some peace out of the limelight. Anybody would need that after the circus she has been in, but that does not mean she has learning difficulties. Take care, Susan...
Honestly speaking, I've already sensed that Susan Boyle has got some sort of mental disability. For me, she really was "odd" to start with. There was something "different" in her personality right when she first time auditioned. I'm not surprised about all this news of "breakdown" and "learning disability.” These just confirmed what I have sensed about her from the start. Nevertheless, I still adore her. I love her voice and would love to listen to her again and will buy her CDs for sure!

Why don't we ALL forget this fiasco and concentrate on the IMPORTANT issues in the world..........This is way way down on the list of priorities.....maybe off the end altogether. There are SO MANY more things that we should be concerned with in this world.
I must say that learning disability has absolutely nothing to do with the anxiety that Susan is feeling. In fact, children and adults alike are encouraged to specialize in an area were they are good, such as art and music. Some famous musicians suffer from learning disabilities, and if someone had to stop them, we wouldn't have had the privilege of listening to the greatest master pieces of all time...
A learning disability or anything similar should never be a consideration. Did she show talent? Yes! The care which should have been taken with her is the care which should be taken with all in such a show: each and any contestant past, present, future could be open to this. Should more care and advice be given to contestants – yes. This was the real issue and where the programme and all others like it should look to develop.
The media should never be taken seriously where show business is concerned. The trouble is Susan believed everything they said, so I suppose she was vulnerable and was bound to get hurt in the aftermath -it always comes sooner or later. I enjoyed the show and look forward to next year and let’s hope the newcomers have learned a lesson from this!
It's people’s fault that sent her hate mail and called her a cheat. I think she would have performed better if she had not had that stuff and maybe won BGT.
I suspect there are few people out there in this world with the outstanding courage and strength of character that Susan Boyle has shown in defying media pressure and giving an excellent performance in the finals. It is no surprise that she needs intensive recovery and support after such an intense emotional journey. We all have a lot to learn from Susan's grace and grit!
I think anyone taken out of their comfort zone would have a hard time.
Susan Boyle's meltdown is a natural thing for people who have instantly become quickly famous. She wasn't used to this fame, and her learning disability has nothing to do with this. Imagine if you weren't young and hip anymore, then imagine losing BGT and imagine the headlines, the paparazzi, the gossip, the rumours. She was trying to act normal, though you could see her getting more and more upset...
I think Susan Boyle’s family is to blame for her condition. They know her better than anyone and should have noticed any signs of distress. They just wanted the fame through her ability to sing and did not think of the after effects.
I think her learning disability has everything to do with it! She was and is clearly not mentally stable. LD people react differently than we would to rejection and that is what happened in her mind after all the hype. She was convinced she would win.
Susan Boyle is a star. She is courageous and brave and is a fantastic person. I hope she feels better soon and wish her all the luck in the world. She is a legend.

I only have one question to ask. Would Susan Boyle have had this supposed breakdown if she had actually won? I think not to be honest.
