For a few months every summer, Big Brother contestants are an essential part of the TV universe. However, time and time again they quickly disappear into Z-list celeb obscurity after the cameras stop rolling.
Only a few housemates have basked in the limelight after the initial flurry of magazine deals and job offers has died down. The late Jade Goody instantly springs to mind; she didn't even win Big Brother but she became the biggest star Big Brother has ever produced.
Others haven't been so lucky. They've discovered what a fickle beast the Big Brother bubble of fame can be; it bursts pretty quickly these days. In our gallery, we chart the careers of the showbiz-savvy and the showbiz has-beens.
