Big Brother winner John has admitted he felt it was achievement to just get into the house, let alone win the £50,000 prize money.

The 20-year-old chairman of the Scottish Youth Parliament also told Dermot O'Leary the experience had taught him things he didn't expect to learn about himself.

John said: "I've grown much more as a person than I appreciate. I'm going to achieve a better work-life balance [in future]. [As a politician], the achievement was getting here."

He admitted that he had found it tough when Matt Lucas made him lie to the other housemates on launch night, which won him a free pass to the final.

"That was the best and the worst part of the experience. I just thought 'come on, get them over with'," he said.

And he said he had "resented" missing out on being nominated because it added to people's suspicions that he was a mole.

Red-head John revealed that his job as a politician had affected the way he behaved in the house, but that he'd still had fun.

"It's a career. I'm a full-time volunteer and I was elected for a one-year post. I felt a duty to be as respectable as possible... it was a zig-zag line," he said.

And he said sometimes he had walked away from others' arguments instead of trying to mediate because "we weren't the most respectful as a group".

John was the first to enter the house and had the unfortunate task of doing whatever Matt Lucas told him to as the other housemates arrived. He had to tell Jeremy he looked like Harry Potter and profusely apologise to Victor and Emilia for hiding from them.

Kelly Osbourne made John blush when she asked him about fancying her mum Sharon. He admitted he thought she was "a sassy, foxy lady".

When Russell Brand hijacked the house and sent a fake "disgruntled" cameraman in to stage a sit-in, John bravely tried to reason with the cameraman in the kitchen. But the housemates all decided he was in on the task and later accused him of being a mole.

In Alan Cumming's acting task, John played Hugo Soiree - a charming French detective, famed for solving high profile cases - and was later given a special mention for his leadership skills.

Chris Moyles invited John to share a pint with him in a secret room when John's team won the pub quiz. He also gave John a mobile phone with three minutes of talk time on it, which John used to call his family and then let Anthony call his mum.

He became an agony uncle for Calista and Anthony who regularly confided in him their feelings for each other - bad and good. And he impressed the housemates with his David Brent-style dance moves when Denise Van Outen made him dance around the house in her musical task. He later won a pampering hamper for being the most entertaining housemate.

When Malcolm McLaren took over and asked the housemates to strip so they could paint with their bodies, John sat out, saying it wouldn't be right for his work.

And he had to pretend to be Emilia when Kate Lawler hijacked the house. Wearing a black wig and work-out clothes John had to try and touch his nose with his foot.
