Former Coronation Street actor Samuel Robertson is the latest star to sign up for a stint in Scottish soap River City.

Samuel - who played Adam Barlow in the Manchester soap - will play laid-back art history undergraduate Innes Maitland.

Samuel said: "I'm having an amazing time filming River City. Innes is a very cool, confident character and he's a lot of fun to play."

Samuel is one of a clutch of newcomers to the gritty serial, including Ryan Smith as Innes' flatmate Charlie Bowie.

Ryan commented: "I'm delighted to have landed a part in River City. I'm due to graduate from Glasgow's RSAMD in July, so this is a great opportunity for me."

Lorna Craig has also joined the show, playing Charlie's younger sister Jennifer.

River City's Executive Producer Gaynor Holmes said: "The arrival of the students will bring a lot of fun to the drama. Samuel will already be recognisable to many of our viewers, and it's a pleasure to also introduce talented newcomers Ryan Smith and Lorna Craig."

English viewers needn't worry about missing the show - they can catch every episode on the BBC i-player.
