Gavin and Stacey star Ruth Jones was in tears for a week as the cast filmed their final scenes for the BBC1 comedy, she has revealed.

Ruth, who plays tough Nessa, said her co-stars James Corden and Joanna Page were also blubbing as they played their roles in the award-winning series for the final time.

"It sounds silly I know, but it's been a big part of our lives for the past three years," said Ruth, who also co-wrote the show.

The third and final series of the feelgood programme - in which Joanna plays Stacey and James plays Smithy - is to be screened later this month.

Ruth said: "It was very emotional filming at the end. Even from day one we all had this sad feeling about it all ending.

"In the final week me and Jo Page just couldn't stop crying. We were pathetic and we looked like frogs. And on the last day me and James were awash.

"But, y'know, things have to move on. I like to think that we dipped into the lives of Gavin and Stacey and their family and friends for a couple of years, and now it's time to dip out again and let them get on with it. I actually do believe sometimes that these people exist! Am I going mad?"

Ruth said she and co-writer James were now aiming to write a movie, although it would not feature the characters from the series.
