Harry Hill is apparently being tipped to replace Jonathan Ross as the host of the British Comedy Awards.

The TV Burp presenter is in line to take over after disgraced comedian Jonathan pulled out of the annual gig following the scandal surrounding his obscene phone calls to actor Andrew Sachs, The Sun reports.

An ITV1 insider told the newspaper: "Harry is the favourite to take over as he is a safe pair of hands.

"He's a big name but his comedy isn't too near the knuckle. The last thing ITV wants is to cause offence.

"Harry will be great at introducing the clips because he's perfected the art with TV Burp."

Other possible hosts reportedly include Dara O'Briain, Piers Morgan, Al Murray and Jimmy Carr.

Irish comedian Graham Norton is the bookmakers favourite -- but The Sun reports insiders close to the presenter say he does not want the job.

Former doctor Harry won two Baftas earlier this year and two comedy gongs in 2006.

The British Comedy Awards will be screened live from London on December 6.
