Is Sir Terry Going To Quit?

Sir Terry Wogan has revealed he is considering quitting Radio 2.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Sir Terry Wogan is thinking of quitting Radio 2. The 70-year-old presenter said: "You really have to leave before they shut the door on you. The older you get the more conscious you become of that."

He has presented Wake Up To Wogan every weekday from 7.30-9.30am on BBCRadio 2 since 1993. It attracts 8million listeners a day - more than any other radio show - and has a dedicated fanbase nicknamed 'TOGs' (Terry's Old Geezers and Girls).

At the Oldie of the Year event, which he hosted, Sir Terry told the Daily Mail: "It is rather like the Eurovision Song Contest. I gave up Eurovision because it was time. You really have to get out the exit before someone starts leading you towards it."

Sir Terry was born in Limerick, Ireland, on August 3, 1938 and educated at Crescent College, Limerick. After leaving college, he went into banking before joining Radio Telefis Eireann (the Irish national radio and TV service) as a newsreader/announcer. After two years of interviewing and presenting documentary features, he moved to light entertainment as a disc jockey and host of television quiz and variety shows.

His first regular BBC Radio show was Midday Spin. When Radio 1 started, he presented Late Night Extra for two years, flying over from Dublin every week. In 1969, he deputised for Jimmy Young and started presenting his own daily show on Radio 1 and 2 in October of the same year. In April 1972, he took over the 7.00-9.30am morning show on Radio 2.

His extensive television credits include his live chat show series, Wogan (which he presented three times a week for seven years on BBC1), The Eurovision Song Contest, Lunchtime With Wogan, Come Dancing, Celebrity Squares, Blankety Blank, Auntie's Bloomers, Points of View and National Lottery Live.

Sir Terry was awarded an honorary OBE in the 1997 New Year's Honours List, and a Knighthood in the 2005 Birthday Honours. One of the highest-paid BBC stars, he is also one of the UK's best-loved presenters.
