Emmerdale star reveals: I'm gay
Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick, who plays vet Vanessa Woodfield, has opened up about her private life, revealing she has a girlfriend.
In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, she talks about landing her dream role in the soap six months ago and why she's decided to speak about her personal life.
After spending nine years playing Lizzie Hopkirk in The Royal, she told The Mirror: "Life is good – and my life with Rosie (her partner) is a big part of that, it really is bliss. I’ve not spoken about it sooner because it never seemed like the right time."
“When I was in The Royal the majority of our audience were older and I would have been nervous of revealing too much."
“But since joining Emmerdale I’ve been getting asked about my personal life and when people want to know ‘do you have a boyfriend?’ it’s tricky."
She went on to say: "I don’t want to hide anything. I’ve never actually been able to talk about ‘my girlfriend’ or ‘partner’ – this person that means everything to me, and it feels good to be able to finally do it.”
"People say, ‘I’d never have guessed you were gay’ because they expect you to look a certain way and I don’t fit their stereotype."
One thing I will say, is that the media are acting irresponsibly, but that's not news. Being gay should no longer be news. I couldn't care less, because I define no-one as gay. I define them as who they are. No-one should judge me or create news by me being gay/straight, nor male/female, nor black or white. I am Andy, and my personality comes from the same personality that each and every one of you came from. The sooner these narrow minded idiots figure that out, the sooner we'll stop creating wars between two men or thousands of men for no reason.
But the funniest thing is - We're human. Throughout our history we've always been so absolutely sure of our own science, knowledge and all of it. Try telling someone years ago the world wasn't flat.
Everything will continue to change. But I'll tell you what, our focus is in the wrong place, and we'll wipe out our own species and natural resources before we truly evolve mentally, because we were too focused on the right outfit, technology and whether someone was gay or straight. I am ashamed of our species, especially when we're so capable of utter genius, which will be wasted before it is realised.
its just the in thing with celebrities, they seem to get more work out of it
and the more camp you are the more you get .
I just hope they don't make it compulsory
