Britney Spears is due to start the Australian leg of her tour

Britney Spears' apparent miming during her Circus tour has been criticised by an Australian politician.

The pop princess, who will be performing the first date of the Australian leg of the tour in Perth on November 6, has got ministers discussing the possibility of bringing in new laws forcing musicians to reveal to ticket buyers if they plan to mime.

Virginia Judge, Fair Trading minister, told the Daily Telegraph in Australia: "Sydneysiders would not tolerate a Mickey Mouse performance... let's be clear, live means live - if you are spending up to 200 Australian dollars, I think you deserve better than a film clip."

Britney's tour director, Steve Dixon, defended the stories surrounding the Circus star's show.

"This is a pop spectacular, this is a showband show. You come for the experience," he said to the paper.

"There is a lot to see about this show, there's nothing like this in the world. Britney Spears will entertain you, that's what people come for. We absolutely give them a show."
