Introducing MSN's favourite new -Scottish-Iranian soul singer-songwriter...

Towards the end of last year, we picked out 23-year-old Zarif as one to watch in 2009. With her debut single, Let Me Back, out now and the lady herself picking up fans all over the place, it seems our prediction might just be coming true.

So, who is she? The child of a Scottish father and Iranian Jewish mother, Zarif has crammed a lot into a short space of time, making her name on the underground London soul-pop scene.

"I always loved music," she explains, going back to her childhood in Harrow. "But I didn't get my first CD player until I was 11. I'd always record Top of the Pops and watch it over and over, learning the dance moves to Michael Jackson videos. But I was always writing songs."

Music isn't her only talent though. She's also a bit of an artist too, as you can see from the cartoons she drew for us below.

Her debut album, entitled box of secrets, is due out in July. Remember, you heard it here first!
