Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl: 'A 'Greatest Hits' is like a band 'obituary''

Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl has said he believes his band's recently-released 'Greatest Hits' album is "premature", comparing such releases to an "obituary" for a band.

The frontman told BBC Newsbeat that the album, released on Monday (November 2), was simply the product of their contract with their record label SonyBMG and suggested that he wasn't entirely happy with the tracklist.

"It still seems premature because we're still a functioning, active band," he said. "Those things can look like an obituary. We were asked to do this a long time ago. We wrote it into a deal a long time ago - that's how it works."

He added: "They [Sony] started asking about four years ago, and we said, 'Don't we need some hits?' It's like a CliffsNotes [study guides] version of what we've been doing for the last 15 years. I think there are better songs than some of those."

Meanwhile, Grohl has been playing recently with new outfit Them Crooked Vultures, who release their self-titled album on November 17.
