Whatever your line of work, a new year is cause for reflection on the 12 months gone by and a look ahead at what's to come. At the end of 2007, I picked Duffy as my one to watch in 2008. Given that she's since sold four million records and been nominated for a Grammy, I don't think I did too badly.
2009 is less clear-cut, it must be said. If I was going to stick my neck out, I would say Lady Gaga is the name to look out for. America's been looking for an answer to our quirky pop females (Lily Allen, Kate Nash etc...) for a while and they may well have found one in the shape of this 22-year-old New Yorker. Not only does she look and sound different, she's a great pop writer who has penned hits for the likes of Britney Spears and Pussycat Dolls. And she went to the same school as Paris Hilton, which surely can't hurt.
Anyway, for more details on her and to see my other selections, click on the thumbnails in the gallery below.
