Songs Inspired By Real People

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is one of the Beatles' most famous songs but relatively few people know it was inspired, in part at least, by a painting Lennon's son Julian did of a schoolmate.

Or rather they didn't until last month when 46 year-old Lucy Vodden died of lupus and the story made the news.

Much more famously, following the death of Princess Diana in 1997, Elton John's writing partner Bernie Taupin reworked the lyrics to their 1974 ode to Marilyn Monroe, Candle In The Wind, and scored the biggest-selling single of all time.

Inspired by such fascinating nuggets of musical trivia, Rob Morgan tracks down 12 songs inspired by real people. Simply click on the thumbnails in the gallery below to see what they are.
