New Yorkers Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden, known collectively as MGMT, have been popping up all over the place lately.

Rolling Stone magazine named them as ones to watch last November, shortly followed by the BBC who ranked them ninth in their Sound of 2008 top 10 poll.

They have since appeared on David Letterman in the States (dressed as wizards, incidentally), Later With Jools Holland over here, and are featured in the latest issue of Q magazine.

And now this: recognition on MSN Music. Surely there is no higher accolade?

As you've probably gathered from the picture if nothing else, MGMT are not your standard meat-and-potatoes indie-rockers. Citing the Incredible String Band, Suicide, Hall & Oates, Spacemen 3, and Royal Trux among their influences, these guys are psychedelic warriors with a sense of humour and a pop sensibility. Isn't that exactly what the world needs right now?

Their debut album, Oracular Spectacular, is released in the UK on March 10.
