Mainstream pop and indie rock came together last night at the 2008 BRITs. The winners circle included Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, and Take That; each of whom won two awards. Mika, Kylie Minogue, and Kate Nash were just a few of the other A-list winners.

With performances from Kaiser Chiefs, Mark Ronson, Rihanna, Mika, Kylie Minogue, and Sir Paul McCartney, who received the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, and an appearance by Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, the BRITs proved to be a spectacular evening.

British Male Solo Artist

  • Mark Ronson - WINNER
  • Newton Faulkner
  • Richard Hawley
  • Jamie T
  • Mika

We say: The right result given that his music has been everywhere this last year. Notable for the fact that he's the first non-vocalist to win in this category.

Kate Nash - © Universal

British Female Solo Artist

  • KT Tunstall
  • PJ Harvey
  • Bat For Lashes
  • Kate Nash - WINNER
  • Leona Lewis

We say: Leona was favourite but Kate actually deserved it more. A rare example of the panel going against the grain for the right reasons.

Mika - © Island
British Breakthrough Act

  • Kate Nash
  • Klaxons
  • Bat For Lashes
  • Leona Lewis
  • Mika - WINNER

We say: They had to give him something just to shut him up.

British Album

  • Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare - WINNER
  • Leona Lewis - Spirit
  • Mark Ronson - Version
  • Mika - Life in Cartoon Motion
  • Take That - Beautiful World

We say: For all the chat about pop making a comeback, the Monkeys picked up two of the most prestigious awards. You could have made a case for Ronson but otherwise fair enough.

British Single

  • Kate Nash - Foundations
  • James Blunt - 1973
  • Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
  • Mark Ronson (ft Amy Winehouse) - Valerie
  • Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
  • Mutya Buena - Real Girl
  • The Hoosiers - Worried About…
  • Take That - Shine - WINNER
  • Mika - Grace Kelly
  • Sugababes - About You Now

We say: Voted for by the public, so who are we to question it?

British Group

  • Kaiser Chiefs
  • Arctic Monkeys - WINNER
  • Girls Aloud
  • Editors
  • Take That

We say: The smart money was on Girls Aloud outraging their more earnest indie peers but it wasn't to be. Shame really.

British Live Act

  • Klaxons
  • Take That - WINNER
  • Kaiser Chiefs
  • Muse
  • Arctic Monkeys

We say: The one really stupid mistake of the night. Lovely guys though they are, Take That live is a cabaret act.

Kanye West - © PA

International Male Solo Artist

  • Kanye West - WINNER
  • Rufus Wainwright
  • Bruce Springsteen
  • Michael Bublé
  • Timbaland

We say: Who cares? Kanye certainly didn't appear to.

Kylie Minogue - © Suzan/EMPICS Entertainment/PA Photos
International Female Solo Artist

  • Alicia Keys
  • Bjork
  • Rihanna
  • Feist
  • Kylie Minogue - WINNER

We say: Come on, everyone knows Rihanna should have won this. Kylie got the sympathy vote here.
Dave Grohl - © Suzan/EMPICS Entertainment/PA Photos

International Album

  • Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
  • The Eagles - Long Road Out of Eden
  • Kylie Minogue - X
  • Kings of Leon - Because of the Times
  • Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace - WINNER

We say: We love the Foos but both Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon had more deserving albums. And Grohl just took the mickey in his speech.

International Group

  • Foo Fighters - WINNER
  • The Eagles
  • Kings of Leon
  • Arcade Fire
  • The White Stripes

We say: If the organisers had seen Dave's speech for the last one, this might have gone elsewhere.

Adele - © Rex

Critics Choice Award

  • Adele - WINNER
  • Foals
  • Duffy

We say: BRIT school alumni in the house! She was pleasantly down to earth and turned in a nice duet with Ronson too.
Paul McCartney - © Warner

Outstanding Contribution To Music

  • Sir Paul McCartney - WINNER

We say: A bona fide legend and no mistake. His medley at the end might have been horribly embarrassing but he showed the kids how it's done.
