Sir Ben Kingsley will be one of the international actors to attend India's oldest and most prestigious film event.

The British actor has confirmed his participation in the 40th International Film Festival Of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa in the last week of November, Goa chief secretary Sanjay Srivasta said.

He will attend the inaugural function to be held in the state capital on November 23 as a guest.

Sir Ben, 65, played the role of Mahatma Gandhi in the film Gandhi directed by Sir Richard Attenborough in 1982 and won an Academy Award for Best Actor.

The annual IFFI event is expected to involve participation from at least 50 countries with 200 world acclaimed films and 6,000 delegates. Ending on December 3, the nine-day festival will award the winner of the International Competition with a prize of £84,700 (140,000 US dollars).

Stars from the Indian film industry are also expected to attend the festival.

The state's chief minister Digambar Kamat said that all arrangements for IFFI will be completed by November 11.
