The Insider: 043

Okay, so maybe Teen Wolf isn’t exactly horror. But with that confirmed as in remake development, the ‘net was set on fire once more by word that John Landis had sold the remake rights to An American Werewolf In London. Now it would seem that Dimension Films might not quite have the rights to the plot, and is planning to re-imagine the tale in different locations around the world. I’m still not sure we need a new Werewolf – anyone remember An American Werewolf In Paris? Ugh!
The credit crunch continues to bite as studios start to get cold feet about megabucks movies – or even slightly expensive ones. Sony has pulled out of Moneyball, a baseball pic Steven Soderbergh and Brad Pitt were about to shoot (though there are conflicting rumours that neither Pitt nor the studio liked the current script) and this week Fox announced that it will likely delay the start of Unstoppable, a train thriller from Tony Scott and Denzel Washington (they must have enjoyed riding about for Pelham 123) because of budget issues. That one looks likely to go ahead, though, while Moneyball is still up in the air.
The Insider has just seen Duncan Jones’ Moon and it’s ace – claustrophobic, moody and with some superb acting by Sam Rockwell. Now Jones has announced more details about his follow-up, Mute. It’s apparently a futuristic thriller set in Berlin that sees a mute bartender go looking for his missing female partner. Can’t wait to see what Jones does with a bigger budget…
Hands up who is surprised by Universal’s move to adapt classic video game Asteroids into a movie. Anyone? Anyone? After all the board game announcements (Ridley Scott still working on Monopoly, apparently), I suppose it was only a matter of time. Still, it’ll only work if they keep the original graphics. I think ILM can cope with that challenge…
Robert Rodriguez, who is the producing power behind the new Predator film, has come out and announced that Vacancy director Nimrod Antal will be the man to bring the hunting beasts back to life. And, since Rodriguez says he wants to move them away from the AVP films, this can only be A Good Thing. Now we need to find some way to rewrite history so the AVP two movies – particularly Requiem – never happened…
Comic Con goodness
The Insider will be hitting Comic Con this year as usual and now I’m itching to see what James Cameron is bringing for Avatar. That, and Kick-Ass footage from Matthew Vaughn. And hopefully something from Iron Man 2. And more… Expect an Insider special once I’m back.
