I hereby start a campaign to have Mickey Rourke win one gong at every award show ever. His speeches are filthy, funny, honest and, at times, inspired. Now all we need to do is get him nominated for something he can really shock at – like the Nickelodeon Kids Choose Nonsense Prizes or the MTV Made Up Movie Awards. He’d go down a storm – just check out his BAFTA speech at the official site.
By the same token, Goldie Hawn should not be allowed to present at shows at all. She’s not funny, she’s just annoyingly ditzy, which is kind of sad for someone with her acting experience. Goldie, you’re a funny actress, but you need to quit thinking you can hand out gongs lucidly. And awards show organizers need to put her on the “No Thanks” list.
Rumour has it – mostly from an interview that Body Of Lies actor Mark Strong gave recently – that Cate Blanchett has been picked to replace Sienna Miller as an age-appropriate Maid Marian to act opposite Russell Crowe’s Sheriff/whatever else he’s playing in Ridley Scott’s Nottingham. We can certainly see Blanchett in the role (she’s got the accent locked after several movie stints as a Brit) and she’s definitely more the sort of love interest Crowe should be matched with.
Sandler’s Dream Team
Adam Sandler is putting together a film that essentially lets him hang around on set with his best comedy mates, under the guise of “providing audiences with a chance to see some of their favourite funny stars in one place” (my imaginary pitch, not his). It sounds either like the Greatest Comic Team Up Ever or a nightmare waiting to be born. Let’s see that cast list, shall we? Sandler… Okay. Kevin James… Not too bad. Chris Rock… Usually funny. Rob Schneider and David Spade. NOOOOOOO!!!!!! Run away!
This week, I got a chance to see 45 minutes of Pixar’s latest, Up. Suffice to say, the team who brought us the likes of Wall-E and The Incredibles have done it again. Up is astonishingly good – funny, touching and even zany at times. It’s like a Looney Tunes ‘toon got together with Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away and made something that has the best of both. True, the rest of the film could be awful, but based on what I’ve seen, it’s shaping up to be another top notch Pixar effort.
After his slightly disappointing Grindhouse entry, Quentin Tarantino blasts back with the first teaser trailer for his new film, Inglourious Basterds. Featuring Brad Pitt’s Aldo Raine leading a group of soldiers against the Nazis in World War Two, it looks like he’s on to a winner. Of course, that depends on your tolerance for Eli Roth bashing heads with a baseball bat… But the film looks suitably OTT and fun. You can see the trailer exclusively here at MSN. Go on, you know you want to!
