James McAvoy is apparently the favourite to play Bilbo Baggins in upcoming movie The Hobbit.

Industry insiders say the 29-year-old Scottish actor - who played Mr Tumnus in The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe - is in pole position for the starring role, reports the Daily Express,

A source said: "A number of names have privately been doing the rounds, including Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Black, but James is the one the film's bosses really want.

"They're expected to have talks with him soon so hopefully it could be confirmed in the not too distant future."

Baggins was played by Sir Ian Holm, 76, in the Lord Of The Rings films but the role is likely to go to a younger actor for the prequel.

Hobbit director Guillermo del Toro apparently recently met with producer Peter Jackson to discuss casting Baggins.

He was quoted as saying: "I can tell you it's down to a few names that we all agree upon. For our first choice, completely magically, we all said the same name."

Up: MSN Review

So, it’s about an old man flying away on an adventure by attaching a huge bunch of helium balloons to his house. Even for the talented craftspeople at Pixar, who successfully brought us a near-silent film about robots last year, this seems far-fetched. We needn’t have worried though. Up is the best Pixar film since Toy Story.
